GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM

The field of Electrical Engineering deals with the generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of electricity. It covers topics such as industrial and power electronics, electrical and instrumentation design and construction, machine control and automation, operations and maintenance of facilities, power systems operation, economics and protection, industrial and power plant engineering.

Electrical Engineering students of FEU Institute of Technology are expected to learn and to experience cutting-edge design software in electrical and power systems design. They will also experience hands-on building design, wiring and installation, motor control design and wiring. With knowledge of electronics, they are expected to excel in the fields of instrumentation, automation and controls design.

Reinforced with subjects on engineering and project management, safety engineering, professional ethics and entrepreneurship, the students are trained to be the best and highly sought professionals in the industry.

TRACK ELECTIVES

The Program offers track electives in the following areas:

  • Power System Protection – focuses on the different aspects of power systems protection to include study on main components used in power system protection, protective relays and its application, electrical surges, lightning protection, insulation coordination, application of surge protection devices, power system grounding, high voltage engineering, electrical breakdown, high voltage tests and measurement techniques.
  • Energy Engineering – focuses on the different aspects of energy engineering to include study on energy management, energy audit, energy program administration and policies, energy evaluation, energy systems, economics of energy system and renewable energy resources such as solar, biomass (conversions), wind power, geothermal, and hydro , with a scientific examination of the energy field and an emphasis on alternate energy sources and their technology, application and conservation.

FACILITIES/LABORATORIES

The Electrical Engineering program utilizes several laboratories to enhance and develop the skills of students in the field of Electrical Engineering. Laboratories are essential elements of the Electrical Engineering curriculum. Thus, the institution always ensures that the available equipment and supplies are sufficient to make the learning environment conducive.

The laboratory rooms comply with the standard academic size requirements with proper ventilation and lighting. Provisions for safety measures are available such as safety signs for precautions, first aid kits, in response to emergency situations, and fire extinguishers in case of fire. Emergency lights and spacious corridors are existing in cases of evacuation. Master shut off electrical switch for Electrical Machines laboratory and Electrical Circuits laboratory are located in the EE dispensing room. All equipment is well organized and ready to be used by students to meet the requirements of the course.

Electrical Machines Laboratory (F901)

The Electrical Machines Laboratory room has a floor area of 90.91 m2 capable of handling 40 students giving an adequate space of approximately 2.3 m2 per student. Electric Machine, Instrumentation and Control Laboratory classes and Design classes are being held in this room. Using LabVolt Modules with various applications for Electric Machines, Instrumentation and Control along with wiring modules, students learn the practical applications of most professional courses in Electrical Engineering.




Electrical Circuits Laboratory (F903)

The Electrical Circuits Laboratory room has a floor area of 90.91 m2 capable of handling 40 students giving an adequate space of approximately 2.3 m2 per student. Electric Circuits Laboratory classes are held in this room. Using Labvolt Circuit Simulation Modules along with oscilloscopes and function generators, students learn the practical application of circuit laws and theorems.


COMPUTER ROOM (T407)

The Computer room has a floor area of 108.95 m2 capable of handling 40 students giving an adequate space of approximately 2.72 m2 per student. Power Systems and Electrical Transmission Design Laboratory classes including some power system track electives are held in this room. Using Electrical Power System Analysis Software (ETAP), students learn the simulated application of power system analysis.
